Our Story

Today, Halcyon is a testament to the power of lasting friendship and shared vision. What began as a bond forged in the school classroom and on the sports field has developed into a successful business that continues to this day.

In 1988, schoolboy friends Richard Tebbutt and Gary Briceland decided to combine their shared values and complementary strengths and founded Halcyon Financial Services. A trusted brokerage offering personalised strategies and guidance to help individuals and businesses achieve their financial goals.

As Halcyon continued to evolve and expand its offerings, the late Andrew Sokolich, also a classmate, joined in 1994. He spearheaded the short-term division with his unique expertise, commitment to excellence and delivering results. Andrew was a driving force within the organisation and his legacy continues to be honoured within Halcyon as an enduring reminder of his friendship and commitment.

Claire Barnes became part of the Short-Term Division in 1996. Her steadfast work ethic and commitment to service excellence propelled her upward to the role of Halcyon Short-Term Director. In addition, she fulfills the crucial role of Operational Manager, overseeing the smooth operation of Halcyon’s functions.

Welcoming another school friend, Fred Darke became a valued team member in 1997. Starting in the Medical Aid Division, Fred’s journey led him to become a Director of Direct Sales, where funeral cover was introduced to the service portfolio. This strategic move allowed Halcyon to offer a comprehensive suite of services under one roof, showcasing the company’s commitment to holistic client care.

After 36 years, Halcyon remains a beacon of service excellence and reliability within the industry. As they continue to the next chapter of Halcyon’s story Richard, Gary, Claire and Fred are driven by a shared vision of growth, innovation and positive impact. Together, they pave the way for the company’s continued success and advancement.
